AccessDISC aims to be a model of access. Recognizing technology both creates and removes barriers, DISC strives to be universally usable. This website implements the concept of universal design--which is fundamental to disability studies—to create a barrier-free, resource-rich, generative digital academic community that is fully accessible. Both DISC‘s content and formats reach across differences of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, and ability to enable humanities learning. DISC thus embodies the principle that access and full integration should be constant and present concerns of the scholarship, teaching, research, and professional activities in which the humanities engage. As a universally usable digital academic community, DISC’s form can be adapted to other areas of humanities inquiry. |
