Employment Opportunity in
Interdisciplinary Program in Disabilty Studies
Program Description:
The University of Manitoba has established an interdisciplinary Master's Degree
Program in Disability Studies. This innovative program will provide students
from a variety of academic backgrounds with the opportunity for research and
scholarship in this emerging field of study. The program also includes a graduate
level Option in Disability Studies, available to both Master's and Doctoral
Students. Two positions are to be filled:
1. Associate Professor
The University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure track
position at the level of Associate Professor in Disability Studies. Applicants
must have expertise, demonstrated by specialization and scholarship, in this
area. Applicants must also have a demonstrated capacity to provide administrative
and programmatic leadership, as the successful candidate will serve as the Director
of this program.
Candidates must hold an earned Doctorate at the time of appointment and must
have an established track record in research in Disability Studies, or disability
related research. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate knowledge
about disability issues, concerns and perspectives. The successful candidate
will have a demonstrated capacity and significant experience in teaching and
supervising graduate students.
A demonstrated capacity to teach and conduct research in an interdisciplinary
program will be an asset. Knowledge about multiple, accessible modes of teaching,
as well as a demonstrated commitment to accessible post-secondary education,
will be an asset.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The start date
for this position is April 1, 2003, or as soon thereafter as possible.
