Go to the Hornbake Non-Print Media Center (4th Floor) and watch the movie "Cabeza de Vaca." With your e-mail discussion group, consider the following questions:
  1. Explain the deeper significance of the conflict between Cabeza de Vaca and the Governor, Panfilo de Narvaez, in the raft scence at the beginning of the movie.
  2. What is the signficance of the scene with the lizard?
  3. What is the significance of Cabeza de Vaca's comment, toward the end of the movie, that they are going to "have to lie"?
  4. How does Echevarria, the director, "re-write" Cabeza de Vaca's story differently from Cabeza de Vaca's own account?
