Confirmation of Participation and Technology Requests: If you have not already confirmed your participation in the 2009 conference, please do so by January 30th. This is also the deadline for technology requests.
2009 Conference Program: Please see the "Current Conference Program" page for a draft of the 2009 conference program.
Hotel Information: A block of rooms has been set aside for the 2009 conference at the New Yorker Hotel, 481 8th Avenue (34th and 8th). This tourist-class hotel (http://www.newyorkerhotel.com/index.html) is a member of the Ramada chain and a short subway ride from the NYU campus (for directions, see their website). A limited number of single and double rooms are available at the rate of US $209 plus taxes per night. To obtain this rate, you must phone in your reservation by March 1st and be sure to ask for the Society for Textual Scholarship room block. The New Yorker's reservations numbers are 1-800 764 4680 or 1-866 800 3088 (within the US). From outside the US, call 212 971 0101 and ask for the in-house reservation department.
A second, smaller block of rooms has been reserved at The Union Square Inn (http://www.unionsquareinn.com) at 209 E. 14th St. The Union Square Inn advertises itself as a boutique hotel for the budget-minded, and is located a short walk from the NYU campus (for directions, see their website). Here a limited number of single rooms are available at US $149 plus taxes per night, and a limited number of doubles at US $169 plus taxes. To obtain these rates, you must phone in your reservation by February 18th, and be sure to mention that you are attending the STS Conference. The Union Square Inn's reservations number is (212) 614-0500.
We stress that the number of rooms blocked off at both hotels is extremely limited, so to ensure you obtain a room at one of the agreed rates, be sure to phone in your reservation early.
We enclose a list of other hotels in the NYU vicinity, with contact information, should you need to make a room reservation elsewhere.
Registration/Membership/Banquet: All participants in the 2009 conference must be STS members in good standing. We have enclosed a form that will allow you to 1) pre-register for the conference; 2) join STS (or renew your membership) for 2009 if you have not already done so (PLEASE SEE THE "MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION PAGE" OF THIS SITE FOR INSTRUCTIONS); and 3) make a reservation for the conference banquet. Please fill out this form and return it with your payment to Professor Meg Roland, STS Secretary, Marylhurst University, 17600 Pacific Highway (Hwy 43), P. O. Box 261, Marylhurst, OR 97036-0261. You may register using either a check in USA dollars or a credit card. STS does NOT offer on-line registration at this time. All pre-registration forms and fees must be received by FEBRUARY 9, 2009 in order to avoid a registration penalty of $25.00 per registration.
